What is a serif font and a sans-serif font?

Ever here someone talking about typography to you and you have no clue what they are talking about? The photo below best describes the difference between a serif and a sans-serif font. Sans-serif is used mostly for web, or certain print designs because it is easier to read on a computer screen. Serif is used for print and newspaper design since it is easier on the eyes to read in print.
